Each of our film constructions is available in different versions (from light to dark). Here is an example of how 4 different densities control the amount of light entering a room. Note that the lower the film number, the darker the film. All Films block 98% or more of the Ultra-Violet light, to help reduce the fading of fabrics and interior furnishings.

Neutral Residential Series Films Our Most Popular Film! HEAT & GLARE CONTROL
WITH REDUCED REFLECTIVITY
Neutral Residential Series Films are made with a combination of dyed and metalized layers. This blended construction provides heat control without the highly reflective "mirrored" appearance of Silver Reflective films. Available in 50%, 35% and 20%. The lower the number, the darker the film. The 20% version should not be applied to double pane glass.

Your solar control objective will help determine which type of film is best suited for your application. Here are some examples of the different types of film, categorized by particular objectives. You can decide which is best based upon performance or simply make your choice based upon how they look on the glass.

Silver Reflective

HIGH PERFORMANCE HEAT CONTROL
Silver Reflective films are made with micro-thin layers of aluminum and are able to block as much as 78% of the solar heat. They have a mirrored appearance as pictured below. The picture on the right shows the same windows as seen from the inside, during daylight hours. At night, when it is dark outside and the lights are on inside, the windows may become like mirrors making it difficult to see outside at night. This can be overcome by dimming the lights or switching to a Neutral Type Film, as pictured below. Silver Reflective Films are available in 68%, 53%, 35% and 15%. The lower the number, the darker the film. Silver Films may be applied to double pane glass.

Before Installation


Should Solar Control inspect my windows before installation?
Yes. We do a walk-through to inspect all windows prior to installation to check for things that could affect installation, including stickers, loose panes, broken glass, imperfections in glass, and alarm system components.

Should Solar Control be aware of prior glass breakage or insulated glass unit seal problems?
Yes. Please alert our staff if your home or business has a history of glass breakage or insulated glass unit seal failure so that we may select the appropriate film for your windows. Failure of sharing this information with us could lead to film selection error or even void any warranty coverage.
What will I need to remove from my window area prior to Solar Control installing my window film?
Please remove all items from window sills including plants. If possible remove curtains and blinds. If it is not possible to remove all window treatments, but position them in a way the glass surface is easily accessible. Move any furniture that can block access to windows.

After Installation


How soon can I clean my windows after Solar Control has completed the film installation?
Windows with newly installed film cannot be cleaned until 30 days after installation. This is very instrumental in ensuring that the adhesive cures and adheres to the glass properly.

Does Solar Control recommend using a specific window cleaner?
After waiting 30 days post-installation, you can use any glass cleaner of your choice.

What kind of cloth does Solar Control recommend that I clean my windows with?
Soft cloths or synthetic sponges can be used to clean windows. Remember to remove all excess moisture from windows after cleaning.
